Built as a platform for 'force extension', the Gemini Starbase was designed to take the fight to the Mantis. For a time it was hugely successful, as it controlled the route from the Gemini Stargate to the densely populated outer planets. However, its crew eventually succumbed to a new type of Mantis attack, a Gamma Ray Bomb, killing everyone on board, leaving only automated services operational.
